Samsung Electro-Mechanics Extends MLCC Delivery Period to 52 Weeks

Samsung Electro-Mechanics, a South Korean manufacturer, has announced an extension of its delivery period for multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) to 52 weeks. This change, reported by Korea's Meritz Securities and cited by the Wall Street Journal, marks an increase from over 30 weeks in September. Customers are now facing wait times of nearly a year after placing orders for low-capacity, high-capacity, and automotive MLCCs.

The delivery delays are not isolated to Samsung Electro-Mechanics. Taiwanese manufacturer Yageo has also reported delivery times ranging from 30 to 52 weeks for its major MLCC products. Other companies, including NIC Components, Viking, and Sanhe Capacitors, have similarly extended their delivery cycles, contributing to a broader trend of price increases across the industry.

The surge in demand for MLCCs is largely driven by the growing need for AI servers, which require more than ten times the MLCC loading capacity compared to standard servers. Despite a capacity utilization rate of 91% in the first half of 2026 for Samsung Electro-Mechanics' components division, the company's expansion project in the Philippines is not expected to reach mass production until after 2027, complicating efforts to ease short-term supply pressures.
