S&P Global Highlights Potential Hidden Debt Among Major Tech Firms

S&P Global has raised concerns regarding the financial health of six prominent technology companies, including Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet, Oracle, Meta, and SpaceX. The rating agency suggests that these firms may have undisclosed debts and contingent liabilities associated with their investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure, which could be significantly higher than what is currently reported in public disclosures.

The agency projects that these companies will collectively invest over $7 trillion in capital expenditures for data centers and AI-related projects between 2025 and 2030. Despite these substantial investments, S&P Global anticipates that these firms will continue to experience negative free cash flow at least until next year, raising questions about their financial sustainability.

While S&P Global has not yet initiated widespread credit rating downgrades for these companies, it warns that the primary risk lies in the possibility that anticipated profits may not materialize following the completion of these extensive investments. This situation could lead to increased financial strain on the companies involved.
