SK Hynix Completes Record Stock Buyback and Cancellation

SK Hynix, a leading storage chip manufacturer based in South Korea, has successfully completed a significant stock buyback and cancellation operation valued at 40 trillion won (approximately $30 billion). This announcement was made on October 21, 2026, marking a notable achievement in the company's financial strategy.

The buyback involved the repurchase of 24.07 million shares, which represents around 3.3% of SK Hynix's total issued shares. Following the buyback, all acquired shares will be canceled, making this the largest stock cancellation operation by a publicly listed company in South Korea's history. Originally scheduled to run from August 20 to November 19, the buyback was completed approximately one month ahead of schedule.

This move follows a similar stock buyback initiative by Samsung Electronics, highlighting a trend among major South Korean technology firms to enhance shareholder value through such financial maneuvers.
