Senator Lummis Criticizes Democrats for Delaying Clarity Act

U.S. Republican Senator Cynthia Lummis has expressed strong criticism towards the Democratic Party for delaying the Clarity Act, a significant piece of legislation aimed at clarifying the regulatory framework for digital assets. In a statement responding to a report, Lummis emphasized that if the bill fails to pass, the blame will rest with the Democrats for not collaborating with Republicans on this bipartisan initiative. She highlighted concerns that ongoing demands for amendments from the Democrats could hinder the growth of the crypto industry by empowering future regulatory agencies to impose restrictive measures.

The Clarity Act, which was passed by the House of Representatives in July 2026, seeks to clearly define the roles of regulatory agencies and categorize digital assets as securities, commodities, or stablecoins. However, the bill has faced delays due to disagreements between banking lobbyists and crypto companies regarding stablecoin yield issues. A new draft of the bill, which emerged in July, includes provisions that prevent government officials from promoting or profiting from cryptocurrencies, but Democrats have criticized it as inadequate and are calling for further amendments.

The U.S. Senate is scheduled to conduct a procedural vote on the Clarity Act next week. Lummis warned that if the bill does not pass at that time, there may not be another viable opportunity to advance it within this decade. She reiterated her belief that bridging the differences between the parties is essential for the bill's success, urging Democrats to compromise rather than expecting concessions from the White House.
