US Spot Bitcoin ETFs Experience $202 Million in Outflows as Bitcoin Price Drops

US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) faced significant outflows totaling $201.81 million on Friday, marking the end of a nine-day inflow streak that had brought in approximately $3.044 billion. This selloff resulted in total assets under management across the 12 listed funds falling below the $100 billion mark, settling at around $96.5 billion.

The decline in ETF assets coincided with a drop in Bitcoin's price, which fell below $78,000 after briefly exceeding $81,000. The price movement was influenced by recent US Treasury buyback operations that had initially improved liquidity conditions for risk assets, prompting institutional investors to reduce their exposure to Bitcoin.

ARK 21Shares’ ARKB ETF was the hardest hit, with net outflows of $114.89 million, accounting for more than half of the total redemptions. Other notable outflows included Bitwise’s BITB with $49.69 million, BlackRock’s IBIT shedding $33.40 million, and VanEck’s HODL losing $13.17 million. In contrast, Morgan Stanley’s MSBT attracted $9.34 million in new investments, standing out as the only fund to gain capital during this period.

Despite the outflows, BlackRock’s IBIT remains the top-performing ETF by cumulative net gains for the year, continuing to attract substantial institutional capital since its launch. The recent redemptions, while significant, do not appear to have substantially impacted its overall performance.
