US Treasury Secretary Removes Chief Information Officer Sam Corcos from AI Policy-Related Work

PANews, September 10 – According to POLITICO, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has removed Chief Information Officer Sam Corcos from AI policy-related work, barring him from further communication with the industry on the matter. Sources say Corcos had previously met with executives from companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic without fully informing the White House, claiming to support a "free and open process" and warning that some White House officials are pushing for AI licensing regulations that could stifle innovation. The report notes that this move comes amid ongoing internal White House disagreements over whether to tighten regulations on the release of advanced AI models, with some government officials concerned that excluding Corcos from AI decision-making could weaken high-level technical expertise.
