Vitalik Buterin Proposes Recursive STARK Memory Pools for Ethereum Upgrade

Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has proposed the inclusion of recursive STARK memory pools in the upcoming Ethereum I-star upgrade. This proposal, known as EIP-8288, aims to enhance the efficiency of quantum-safe signatures and privacy transactions by allowing signature data to be stored off-chain, thereby significantly reducing costs.

The implementation of this proposal could lead to a dramatic decrease in the fuel costs associated with quantum-safe privacy transactions, potentially lowering expenses from approximately 10 million to just tens of thousands. The proposal builds on previous advancements in Ethereum technology, specifically the use of frames and recursive STARK aggregated transaction dependencies, which involve nodes transmitting a STARK of about 100 to 300KB during each time period.

If adopted, the on-chain overhead would consist of one STARK and 96 bytes for each statement that requires proof, marking a significant step forward in Ethereum's scalability and security against quantum computing threats. This development reflects ongoing efforts within the Ethereum community to enhance transaction efficiency and privacy in the blockchain ecosystem.
