European Stock Markets Rise Amid Falling Oil Prices

European stock markets opened higher on September 23, 2026, with the Eurostoxx index up by 0.5%. Major indices showed positive movement, including Germany's DAX rising by 0.3%, France's CAC 40 increasing by 0.5%, the UK's FTSE gaining 0.4%, Spain's IBEX climbing by 0.3%, and Italy's FTSE MIB also up by 0.5%.

The rise in equities is attributed to a decline in oil prices, with Brent crude falling to just below $99 per barrel. This marks the sixth consecutive session of decline, driven by improved supply from Saudi Arabia and optimism surrounding US-Iran diplomatic efforts, which have alleviated some geopolitical concerns. This easing of oil prices is contributing to reduced inflation worries and is providing relief to bond markets, where 10-year Treasury yields are hovering around 4.95% and German 10-year bond yields have settled at approximately 3.44%.

Investors are also awaiting preliminary Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) data for September from France, Germany, and the Eurozone, which is expected to provide insights into economic momentum and inflation pressures. Additionally, US futures are showing a stable trend, with S&P 500 futures up by about 0.1%, while Nasdaq futures remain largely unchanged after the Nasdaq Composite index reached a record close on Tuesday. Despite the positive sentiment in the stock markets, caution persists in the bond market.
