Anthony Scaramucci Supports Coinbase CEO After CLARITY Act Stalls in Senate

Anthony Scaramucci, founder of SkyBridge Capital, has publicly defended Brian Armstrong, the CEO of Coinbase Global Inc., following the failure of the CLARITY Act to progress in the U.S. Senate. Scaramucci criticized the political environment in Washington, labeling the bill's collapse as 'typical Washington nonsense' and attributing it to partisan conflicts rather than any shortcomings in the proposed legislation.

The CLARITY Act, which aims to establish a federal framework for cryptocurrency regulation by dividing oversight between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), had previously passed the House of Representatives with a vote of 294-134 in July 2025. However, it has faced repeated delays in the Senate, where it requires 60 votes to overcome a filibuster due to ongoing disputes over certain provisions.

In a separate statement, Armstrong expressed his frustration over reports suggesting he and Coinbase were to blame for the bill's failure. He accused The Wall Street Journal of unfairly targeting him and reiterated his commitment to advocating for cryptocurrency legislation. The Senate's recent vote, which failed 49-50, represents a significant setback for the establishment of a clear regulatory framework for digital assets as the 2026 midterm elections approach.
