ASML CFO Criticizes Proposed U.S. Sales Restrictions to China

Roger Dassen, Chief Financial Officer of ASML, a leading global manufacturer of chip equipment, has publicly opposed a proposal in the U.S. Congress aimed at restricting the company's sales of deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography equipment to China. His comments were made during a conference call with reporters following ASML's third-quarter earnings release.

Dassen warned that if the Match Act, which seeks to limit ASML's sales to China, is enacted after the upcoming U.S. midterm elections, it could inadvertently accelerate the development of competitive technologies within China. He expressed hope that rational decision-making would prevail in the legislative process.

The Match Act has been characterized by Reuters as a significant legislative proposal that could impact ASML's operations and the broader semiconductor industry, highlighting the ongoing tensions between the U.S. and China in technology and trade.
