Algorand Foundation's Marketing Chief Resigns Amid Leadership Restructuring
Marc Vanlerberghe has resigned from his position as Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer of the Algorand Foundation, effective October 14, 2026. His departure follows that of Chief Technology Officer Bruno Martins, who left the organization on October 9, 2026. Vanlerberghe had been with the foundation for 2.5 years, initially joining as Chief Marketing Officer in March 2024, and his exit marks a significant change in the foundation's leadership as it undergoes a strategic overhaul under new CEO William Herkelrath.
Herkelrath, who took over as CEO on August 31, 2026, is currently reviewing the foundation's initiatives and partnerships with the aim of making Algorand self-sustaining. His leadership approach is focused on promoting institutional adoption of Algorand's technology among major financial players and enhancing the network's post-quantum cryptography capabilities. This shift in direction has prompted a reevaluation of existing projects and personnel within the organization.
The leadership changes extend to the board of the Algorand Foundation, with Herkelrath and Alex Fowler joining, while former board members Rebecca Rettig and Michael Mosier have stepped down. Community reactions to these departures have been mixed, with some expressing concern over the rapid turnover of senior executives, while others view it as a necessary step towards revitalizing the foundation's strategy. The next steps for Algorand will include appointing replacements for the CTO and marketing roles and assessing the outcomes of Herkelrath's partnership review.
