Tron Launches Post-Quantum Cryptography on Test Network
Tron founder Justin Sun announced the launch of the platform's post-quantum cryptography on its test network. This development comes as the team actively monitors advancements in quantum computing and artificial intelligence, positioning itself to implement these capabilities on the mainnet when necessary. Sun emphasized the commitment to safeguarding user assets as Tron aims to be among the first mainstream blockchains to achieve post-quantum readiness before the anticipated 'Q-Day', when quantum computers could potentially compromise current security protocols.
The focus on post-quantum cryptography is growing within the blockchain community, as the advent of sufficiently powerful quantum computers poses a threat to the elliptic curve cryptography that secures major networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Earlier in 2026, a consortium led by Strategy pledged $15 million towards research into Bitcoin's quantum security. Additionally, the Ethereum Foundation has proposed a migration plan to post-quantum cryptography, while Algorand aims to introduce post-quantum accounts by 2027.
In related developments, AmericanFortress, a blockchain security firm, has unveiled a cryptographic solution designed to protect cryptocurrency wallets from potential quantum attacks. This solution allows users to maintain their current wallet configurations without the need for transferring funds or changing addresses. The technical details of this solution have been shared in a paper published on the Cryptography ePrint Archive, although it has not yet undergone peer review.
