Musk "advised against" by chip experts: Terafab project harder than launching Starship rocket

PANews reported on October 10, citing Wccftech, that Musk claimed his Terafab manufacturing project will be capable of producing 1 terawatt of computing power, but semiconductor experts pointed out that this goal is very difficult to achieve. The industry stressed that the barriers to entry in chip manufacturing are extremely high, and achieving stable yields at Terafab may be more difficult than sending Starship to Mars. A Samsung executive revealed that the strength of the chip manufacturing industry depends on knowledge accumulated over many years through the complex process of continuously improving yields, and that it takes at least 30 years to bring equipment to mass-production yield levels while maintaining the optimal combination of process steps.

Hanwha Securities analyst Park Joon-yong believes Terafab aims to supply chips for applications ranging from aerospace to autonomous vehicles and robotics. Meanwhile, Intel's chip production experience is crucial for Tesla and SpaceX, as it can help Terafab quickly develop production systems without spending a great deal of time developing technology from scratch.
