Kimi's Annual Revenue Reaches $1.2 Billion, Driven by New Low-Cost Model

AI company Kimi, operating under the brand Moonlight's Dark Side, has reported an annual recurring revenue of $1.2 billion as of September 2026, according to a report by Nomura Securities. This figure marks a significant increase from the previous month, when Kimi's revenue surpassed $1 billion. The company is aiming for a year-end target of $2 billion in annual recurring revenue.

The recently launched K2.8 Preview model, introduced on September 11, is projected to contribute approximately 40% to 45% of the annual revenue. This model is designed to be more affordable and focuses on programming and everyday agent tasks, outperforming the flagship K3 model, which is expected to account for 30% to 35% of revenue. Experts estimate that the K3 model has a gross margin of around 35% to 40%, while the K2.8 Preview is expected to have a lower margin of 20% to 25%.

Kimi's API remains its largest revenue source, with international markets accounting for over half of its earnings. The company's strategic focus on lower-cost models appears to be driving its growth in both domestic and overseas markets.
