Trump Declares 'Superintelligence' as Official Terminology, Labels AI Detractors as Enemies

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that anyone who does not adopt the term 'Superintelligence' (SI) will be considered an enemy of the White House. This statement was made via his social media platform, where he criticized the term 'Artificial Intelligence' (AI), claiming it suggests that the technology is not genuine. The White House is reportedly in the process of officially renaming AI to SI, reflecting Trump's belief that the new terminology better represents the technology's capabilities.

At the end of September 2026, Trump signed an executive order mandating that federal departments and agencies use 'Superintelligence' and SI in all official communications, including letters and public statements, to the fullest extent allowed by law. However, this directive does not extend to private companies such as OpenAI, as the White House lacks the authority to enforce it on the private sector.

In response to the shift in terminology, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced on social media that he would rename the Artificial Intelligence department at SpaceX to SpaceXSI. This department was previously known as xAI before being rebranded after SpaceX's acquisition of Grok developer xAI in July. Meanwhile, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated in a recent interview that his company has no plans to change its name, although discussions around Superintelligence will continue.
