Union Square Ventures Launches $900 Million Fund to Support Innovative Companies
Union Square Ventures (USV), a prominent venture capital firm based in the United States, has announced the launch of a new fund totaling $900 million. This fund aims to support companies that are innovating in large markets transformed by technology. The new fund significantly expands USV's previous core fund, which was $275 million, allowing the firm to lead more investment rounds and provide longer-term support to companies, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence, robotics, manufacturing, and energy.
The investment strategy of USV has evolved since its inception in 2004, when founders Fred Wilson and Brad Burnham articulated a thesis focused on early-stage companies leveraging existing internet infrastructure. This approach has led to successful early investments in notable companies such as Twitter, Twilio, Etsy, MongoDB, and Coinbase. The firm aims to maintain a similar number of investments with the new fund as it has in the past.
The core investment team for the new fund includes seasoned investors such as Nick Grossman, Nikhil Raman, and Michael Mignano, who has recently joined as a general partner. Other key members include venture partner Jared Hecht and product advisor partner Scott Belsky, both of whom bring extensive experience from their previous ventures. This new fund positions USV to capitalize on emerging opportunities in technology-driven markets.
