White House Chief Crypto Advisor Patrick Witt Resigns Amid Legislative Challenges

Patrick Witt has stepped down from his position as the White House Chief Crypto Advisor, marking another significant personnel change in the Biden administration's approach to digital asset regulation. An official from the White House confirmed that Witt's term had concluded, expressing appreciation for his contributions during his tenure, which began under the Trump administration.

Witt played a pivotal role in advocating for the Clarity Act, a proposed legislation aimed at establishing a comprehensive regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies. While the House of Representatives passed its version of the bill over a year ago, the Senate has encountered various hurdles, including disagreements between the banking sector and the crypto industry regarding stablecoin rewards. Additionally, concerns have been raised about potential conflicts of interest related to President Trump's substantial crypto holdings, which contributed to the bill's failure to advance in a recent procedural vote.

Witt's departure follows the exits of other key figures in the White House's crypto advisory team, including David Sacks, who left in March, and Harry Jung, Witt's deputy, who resigned in July. These changes reflect ongoing challenges in the U.S. government's efforts to create a cohesive regulatory environment for digital assets.
