Binance Sees $618 Million Surge in Taker Volume as Bitcoin Surpasses $85,000
On September 21, Binance, a major cryptocurrency exchange, experienced a significant spike in net taker volume, reaching over $618 million within just one hour. This surge indicates a strong preference for aggressive buying on the platform, coinciding with Bitcoin's price breaking through the $85,000 mark, marking a 6.7% increase in the BTC/USDT trading pair during the same timeframe.
The rapid buying activity led to more than $400 million in short liquidations across the cryptocurrency markets. These liquidations occur when short positions are forcibly closed, resulting in market buy orders that further drive up prices. The data, tracked by the on-chain analytics firm CryptoQuant, highlighted that this surge was unique to Binance, with no similar spikes reported on other major exchanges during that period.
This event is part of a broader trend observed in 2026, where Binance has recorded notable spikes in net taker volume. Earlier in the year, the exchange noted a volume exceeding $500 million in January and over $1 billion in cumulative net taker volume during a volatile trading session in April. Such patterns have historically preceded bullish movements in Bitcoin and the wider cryptocurrency market, emphasizing Binance's significant influence in the crypto derivatives space.
