Bitcoin Suisse Expands Services to Portugal Under EU MiCA Framework

Bitcoin Suisse, a Swiss cryptocurrency firm, has officially launched its trading, custody, and staking services in Portugal as of October 20, 2026. This expansion is facilitated through Bitcoin Suisse (Europe) AG, which operates under a Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) license obtained earlier this year from Liechtenstein’s Financial Market Authority (FMA) under the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation.

The services offered by Bitcoin Suisse in Portugal are tailored for high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and institutional clients, rather than casual investors. The firm aims to provide a comprehensive suite of services that includes buying and selling cryptocurrencies, secure custody solutions, and staking options, which allow clients to earn rewards by locking up their tokens to support blockchain networks.

Leading the new operation in Portugal are Rafaella Orelli and Alexander Spann, who will focus on building a local client base. The firm, which manages assets estimated between $3.5 billion and $4 billion, views Portugal as a strategic market due to its growing digital asset adoption, ranking 20th globally on a population-adjusted basis according to Chainalysis data. This launch is part of a broader strategy to leverage the passporting capabilities granted by the MiCA framework, allowing the firm to operate across the European Economic Area without needing separate licenses in each country.
