Bitmine Chairman Predicts Ethereum Could Exceed $5,000 This Year
Tom Lee, Chairman of Bitmine, has expressed strong optimism regarding Ethereum's potential to surpass $5,000 this year. In a recent interview, Lee highlighted the growing trend of Wall Street tokenizing assets as a key driver for Ethereum's anticipated breakout. He noted that Ethereum has significantly outperformed traditional stocks and the broader AI market this summer, with a notable lead over the S&P 500 since June.
Lee emphasized that the current crypto bull market is already confirmed, citing Ethereum's impressive rise of approximately 64% from its 2026 low of $1,500 to around $2,800. Despite this surge, he observed a general ambivalence among investors, many of whom have been caught off guard by the asset's upward momentum. Lee pointed out that large players in the market have reported substantial losses due to their bearish stance on Ethereum's recent performance.
At Bitmine, which is recognized as the largest Ethereum digital asset treasury company, Lee has been actively purchasing Ethereum weekly since June of last year. The company is nearing its goal of acquiring 5% of all outstanding Ethereum. Lee believes that the current market conditions, including a supportive regulatory environment and the rise of tokenization, will attract a new wave of investors to the cryptocurrency space, setting the stage for a significant price increase.
