Blast Announced Its Shutdown due to Unprofitable Economic Model

      • The Blast team announced the shutdown two years after launch.
      • The network is ceasing operations due to unprofitability.
      • Users need to withdraw their assets by October 26.

The Blast L2 network team announced on October 2, 2026, that it is shutting down the project due to economic unprofitability. The developers said the costs of maintaining the network exceed revenues, and they do not see any prospects for making it economically self-sustaining.

Users were urged to withdraw their assets from Blast to Ethereum by October 26.

Blast Failed to Achieve Economic Sustainability

Blast launched its mainnet on February 29, 2024. The project was positioned as an Ethereum-based L2 solution for users and developers, but after more than two years, the team decided to wind down operations.

“We launched Blast with the goal of building a self-sustaining chain for users and developers. Unfortunately, the economics of operating the chain no longer make sense: the ongoing costs of maintaining Blast exceed the revenue generated by the L2, and we do not see a credible path to making the chain economically sustainable,” the team said in a statement.

The developers apologized to users and developers who supported the ecosystem, and noted that the top priority during the shutdown is the safe withdrawal of assets.

The team recommended moving all funds to Ethereum, including balances stored in the Blast PWA.

Users Were Given Until October 26

As part of the shutdown process, the team will first begin withdrawing Blast assets associated with Lido. The developers estimate this process will take about a week. During this period, withdrawals will be temporarily unavailable, even after the delay is reduced.

After the procedure is completed, users will be able to withdraw assets with a new 24-hour delay instead of the previous one.

The key deadline for users is October 26, 2026. Until that date, assets can be withdrawn via Blast’s standard interface.

After October 26, funds will still be available for withdrawal, but users will need to interact directly with the Blast Bridge contracts on Ethereum L1. The team promised to publish detailed instructions before then.

As a reminder, the Blast developers launched the mainnet on February 29, 2024.
