Capital B Reports €69.5M Loss as Bitcoin Reserves Grow to…
Why Did Capital B's Net Loss Increase So Sharply?
The €67.5 million impairment accounted for approximately 97% of Capital B's first-half net loss. The company emphasized that the charge had no immediate cash impact, distinguishing the accounting adjustment from realized losses or expenditure associated with selling Bitcoin.Nevertheless, the company's underlying financial performance remained negative at the consolidated level. Group adjusted EBITDA deteriorated to negative €1.1 million from negative €815,000 in the corresponding period of 2025, while operating losses widened to €1.9 million from €1.7 million.Capital B's balance sheet showed total assets of €317.1 million at June 30, compared with €297.2 million at the end of 2025. Shareholders' equity declined to €86.8 million from €109.4 million, while reported provisions increased substantially.Investor Takeaway
The impairment does not represent an equivalent cash outflow, but it demonstrates how Bitcoin price fluctuations can dominate Capital B's reported earnings and balance-sheet presentation.
Are Capital B's Operating Businesses Generating Enough Profit?
Revenue increased 3.5% year-on-year to €5.85 million from €5.65 million, supported by the company's data intelligence, artificial intelligence and technology consulting subsidiaries. These established businesses generated approximately €640,000 in adjusted operational EBITDA, an increase of 9.8% from €580,000 a year earlier. However, the positive contribution was insufficient to offset expenses associated with managing the Bitcoin treasury strategy. The company identified approximately €2.2 million in holding-company and treasury-related costs, including advisory, personnel and financial intermediary expenses. This creates an important distinction for shareholders. Capital B retains revenue-generating technology operations, but its consolidated profitability increasingly depends on the economics of its Bitcoin accumulation and financing activities rather than the performance of its consulting subsidiaries alone. Is Bitcoin Accumulation Outpacing Shareholder Dilution?
Capital B increased its strategic holdings from 2,823 BTC in January to 3,139 BTC at the end of June, before reaching 3,538 BTC by September 30. The reserve remained at that level on October 15.The company disclosed an aggregate acquisition cost of €310.6 million, equivalent to an average purchase price of €87,805 per Bitcoin. Its year-to-date BTC Yield reached 2.2% at September's end. This company-defined metric measures the percentage increase in Bitcoin holdings relative to fully diluted shares outstanding, rather than income earned from Bitcoin or returns delivered to shareholders. The difference matters because Capital B has relied heavily on issuing equity-linked instruments to finance purchases. FinanceFeeds previously covered its €15.2 million private placement involving Adam Back and TOBAM, which helped finance additional Bitcoin accumulation.Although total Bitcoin reserves expanded by 25.3%, the much smaller 2.2% BTC Yield indicates that increases in potential share ownership claims absorbed much of the benefit of additional purchases.Investor Takeaway
Growing Bitcoin reserves do not automatically translate into proportional gains for existing shareholders. Bitcoin per fully diluted share, financing terms and the stock's valuation relative to treasury assets are more informative than aggregate holdings alone.
Can Capital B Sustain Its Bitcoin Treasury Expansion?
Capital B announced approximately €27.5 million in capital raises during the first half of 2026, followed by another €31.7 million between July 1 and October 15. The combined announced financing totaled approximately €59.2 million. The company held €4.6 million in available cash at September 30, alongside 61 BTC allocated separately to operational requirements. Together, those resources were valued at approximately €9.1 million.Management said its cash forecasts supported liquidity requirements for the 12 months following the June reporting date, although those projections depend partly on assumptions about Bitcoin holdings and future operations.Further financing remains central to the strategy. Shareholders previously approved authorizations covering up to €105 billion in potential capital increases and credit instruments. These authorizations provide financing flexibility but do not represent funds already secured. The company has also explored Bitcoin-backed credit products inspired by Strategy's financing model, potentially broadening its funding options beyond conventional equity issuance. For investors, the central question is whether Capital B can continue increasing Bitcoin exposure per share without excessive dilution or financing costs. A sustained recovery in Bitcoin prices could improve its balance-sheet position and access to capital, while further weakness could pressure valuations and make additional fundraising less attractive.Investor Takeaway
Capital B's next disclosures should be assessed against three measures: Bitcoin holdings per fully diluted share, available liquidity and the cost of raising additional capital. Together, these will determine whether treasury expansion creates sustainable value for existing shareholders.
