Pump.fun Launches Perpetual Futures Trading with Hyperliquid Support

Pump.fun, a platform known for launching memecoins, is expanding into the leveraged trading sector by introducing crypto perpetual futures trading. This new offering is powered by Hyperliquid, a trading infrastructure provider, which allows Pump.fun to leverage its technology for trading Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) perpetual contracts. The announcement was made via a post on X, with API data indicating that funding rates and open interest for these perpetuals are sourced directly from Hyperliquid's HyperCore mainnet.

Perpetual futures are derivative contracts that enable traders to speculate on asset prices without owning the underlying assets, and they do not have an expiration date. The funding rate, which is a periodic payment between long and short traders, helps maintain the contract price in line with the real market price. Open interest reflects the total number of open contracts at any given time. By utilizing Hyperliquid's order book and liquidity, Pump.fun aims to provide substantial leverage options, offering up to 40 times margin on BTC and 25 times on ETH.

This partnership builds on a previous integration between Pump.fun and Hyperliquid, which began in August 2026 when Pump.fun added support for HyperEVM, Hyperliquid's smart contract environment. This earlier collaboration enabled USDC-denominated spot trading with minimal fees. As of early October 2026, Pump.fun had surpassed Hyperliquid in 30-day revenue, indicating a strong market presence as it enters the competitive derivatives space, previously dominated by platforms like FOMO, which launched similar trading options in June 2026.

While the introduction of leveraged trading presents opportunities for traders, it also carries significant risks. The high leverage available can lead to substantial losses from minor price fluctuations, and the reliance on Hyperliquid's infrastructure raises concerns about potential disruptions affecting multiple platforms simultaneously. Key metrics to monitor will include open interest in Pump.fun's perpetual markets and the competitive response from FOMO as the landscape evolves.
