Lighter Launches EVM Development Network for Smart Contract Management
Lighter, a decentralized perpetual contract trading platform, has officially launched its Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) development network. This new network, referred to as a devnet, is an EVM-equivalent rollup developed in collaboration with Axiom and powered by OpenVM. It is designed to work in conjunction with Lighter Core, facilitating joint settlements to the Ethereum blockchain through a single zero-knowledge proof.
The EVM development network allows developers to deploy smart contracts using popular tools such as Foundry, Hardhat, Viem, and Ethers. It provides access to essential functionalities, enabling developers to read accounts, balances, positions, orders, and market data from Lighter Core. Additionally, they can place, modify, and cancel orders, as well as transfer assets between the development network's Layer 1, Lighter Core, and Lighter EVM.
To ensure effective onboarding, Lighter is currently accepting developers in batches and plans to expand access to all interested developers in the coming weeks. Developers can request access by contacting the team via email at evm@lighter.xyz. This initiative aims to enhance the trading experience on the platform by leveraging the capabilities of smart contracts.
