Filecoin to Adjust Block Rewards Structure for Paid Storage
Filecoin, a decentralized storage network, has announced plans to modify its block rewards system as part of a new proposal known as FIP-0118. This initiative aims to gradually reduce the consensus share of each block reward from the current 95% to a minimum of 50% over the course of approximately nine quarters. The adjustment is designed to incentivize paid storage services within the Filecoin ecosystem.
Under the new structure, any portion of the service share that remains unearned will be burned, effectively removing it from circulation. This move is expected to enhance the economic model of Filecoin by promoting the use of its storage services and ensuring a more sustainable reward distribution for network participants. The changes reflect Filecoin's ongoing efforts to adapt its operations to better serve its users and the broader decentralized finance landscape.
