Coinbase Launches Fixed-Rate Bitcoin-Backed Loans Through Morpho Midnight

Coinbase has introduced fixed-rate, fixed-term Bitcoin-backed loans via its Morpho Midnight platform, allowing users in the United States, except for those in New York, to borrow USDC with stable interest rates and repayment dates. This new lending option enables users to post Bitcoin as collateral while securing a consistent rate until the loan matures.

This launch follows Coinbase's earlier offering of variable-rate BTC-backed loans through Morpho Blue, which began on January 16, 2025, and has since accumulated over $1.4 billion in outstanding loans. Morpho Midnight aims to provide the predictability of traditional loans within the blockchain framework, allowing borrowers to negotiate terms directly without the uncertainty of fluctuating market rates.

Currently, Morpho Midnight holds approximately $30 million in total deposits, a small fraction compared to the billions managed by Morpho Blue. The partnership with Coinbase is expected to enhance growth and validate the platform's capabilities beyond theoretical applications, as it serves as a significant distribution channel for the new product.
