Derive Dominates Onchain Options Market as Volume Reaches $5 Billion

Onchain options trading experienced significant growth in September 2026, with total notional volume across various platforms nearly doubling to between $4.8 billion and $5.66 billion. Derive, a platform previously known as Lyra Finance, maintained a dominant position in the market, processing approximately $3.8 billion in notional volume, which accounted for around 79% of the total market share for the month. This figure reflects a slight decrease in its dominance, as competitors Paradex and Hypercall showed notable growth during the same period.

Paradex's integration of Paradigm's request for quote (RFQ) system in mid-September contributed to its rapid expansion, resulting in a 285% increase in notional volume month-over-month and pushing its open interest above $250 million. Meanwhile, Hypercall also made strides, capturing an estimated 11.2% share of notional trading in September. These developments indicate that while Derive remains the leader, its competitors are gaining traction and could pose a challenge in the future.

Derive's success can be attributed to its use of a central limit order book (CLOB), which allows for precise pricing of options contracts, a critical factor in the trading of such financial instruments. Additionally, partnerships with firms like FalconX have bolstered its liquidity, further solidifying its market position. As the onchain options market continues to evolve, the performance of Paradex and Hypercall will be closely monitored to see if they can maintain their growth and challenge Derive's leadership.
