      Ethereum Foundation-Linked Wallets Send Another 4,393 ETH…

Two cryptocurrency wallets linked to an early Ethereum Foundation distribution transferred 4,393 ETH, worth approximately $11.13 million, to Kraken in transactions reported on October 12, 2026, drawing renewed attention to the movement of long-held Ether.Blockchain monitoring accounts Lookonchain and EmberCN identified the transfers, which originated from addresses associated with a distribution of 59,751 ETH roughly a decade earlier.According to the trackers, 49,751 ETH from that original allocation has reached Kraken over the intervening ten years, at an estimated average historical price of $658 per token. The latest deposit was valued at approximately $2,534 per ETH.However, the transfers do not establish that the Ethereum Foundation initiated the transactions or that the deposited assets were sold. Independent analysis of the wallet history indicates that the receiving addresses are several transactions removed from the Foundation's original distribution, leaving their present ownership uncertain.

      Decade-Old Allocation Draws Renewed Attention

The original 59,751 ETH allocation dates to approximately 2016, when Ether traded near $0.90, according to Lookonchain. At that historical price, the allocation represented approximately $53,776.The same quantity would be worth more than $151 million at the valuation implied by the latest Kraken deposits.Blockchain records reviewed by market observers indicate that the original distribution passed through an intermediary address before being divided among additional wallets. One of the latest sending addresses transferred approximately 2,998 ETH, worth around $7.6 million, while the second accounted for roughly 1,395 ETH. The historical movement of 49,751 ETH represents approximately 83% of the original allocation. The remaining difference of 10,000 ETH does not necessarily represent the current balance of the sending wallets, because the available tracking summaries do not establish where those assets are held. The reported $658 average transfer price is also not a verified realized selling price. It reflects the estimated market value when assets reached Kraken, rather than confirmed execution prices or proceeds. The distinction is particularly important because exchange deposits can support multiple activities, including trading, custody transfers and liquidity management.

Foundation Treasury Policy Provides Context, Not Confirmation

The Ethereum Foundation has previously acknowledged that periodic ETH sales form part of its treasury management strategy. In its June 2025 treasury policy, the organization established an annual operating expenditure target equivalent to 15% of its treasury and a reserve covering approximately 2.5 years of expenses. The Foundation also outlined plans to gradually reduce its annual spending target toward 5% over five years. Under that framework, management periodically assesses whether ETH conversions are necessary to maintain sufficient fiat-denominated reserves. However, the existence of this policy does not establish that the latest Kraken deposits were Foundation-directed transactions. The organization has not publicly confirmed the purpose of the transfers, while Kraken has not disclosed any corresponding executions. The distinction between Foundation-controlled treasury assets and wallets historically funded by the Foundation is therefore central to interpreting the activity. For investors, large exchange deposits can attract attention because they increase the amount of cryptocurrency potentially available for sale. Nevertheless, the immediate market implications depend on whether the assets are actually traded, the execution method and prevailing liquidity conditions. The latest 4,393 ETH movement adds to a decade-long transaction history involving early Ethereum holdings, but it does not independently demonstrate a new Foundation liquidation.Until wallet ownership or subsequent trading activity is confirmed, the transfers remain evidence of cryptocurrency movement rather than verified selling pressure.
