Nvidia CFO Predicts Continued Rise in Memory Prices Amid Supply Shortages
Nvidia's Chief Financial Officer, Colette Kress, announced during a recent conference call that the company is experiencing significant increases in memory prices, which are expected to continue rising into next year. This surge in pricing has impacted Nvidia's profit margins, with Kress projecting that gross margins will reach a low of 71% to 72% in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year, before recovering to between 72% and 73% in fiscal year 2028.
The ongoing memory shortage is primarily attributed to the demands of artificial intelligence infrastructure, according to Kress. Meanwhile, South Korean memory manufacturer SK Hynix has indicated that a balance between supply and demand in the memory market is not anticipated until at least 2030. In response to the market conditions, SK Hynix has committed approximately $38.3 billion to expand its operations in South Korea through 2031, solidifying its position as a leader in the high-bandwidth memory sector with a market share of about 50%.
This situation highlights the challenges faced by companies reliant on memory products, as they navigate a landscape marked by fluctuating prices and supply constraints. Micron Technology is set to release its fiscal fourth-quarter results on September 30, which may provide further insights into the memory market dynamics.
