NYSE Spent a Year Testing Avalanche as Stock Market Moves Onchain

      • Avalanche could become part of NYSE’s onchain infrastructure.
      • The exchange tested the technology for a year.
      • However, there is still no final blockchain selection.

Ava Labs President Charlie Cooper said that the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) has been testing Avalanche technology over the past year and has been working with the company to integrate it into its own infrastructure. The Block reported this, citing Cooper’s remarks at the Avalanche Summit in New York.

According to him, the parties also evaluated the solution’s economic model, but NYSE has not yet announced a final blockchain choice for its tokenized securities platform.

Cooper emphasized that NYSE not only assessed Avalanche’s technical capabilities, but also tried to understand how well Ava Labs grasps the exchange’s broader business needs.

“We’ve remained in a close working relationship. I leave it to the NYSE guys to talk publicly about where they are in the whole process,” Cooper noted.

Earlier at the event, Michael Blaugrund, head of strategic initiatives at Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), NYSE’s parent company, spoke as well. He said ICE has been actively engaging with the Avalanche team while evaluating blockchain platforms.

“As we’ve evaluated different platforms, Avalanche checks a lot of those boxes for us, so we’re very engaged with the team,” Blaugrund said.

In January, the NYSE announced it was developing a platform for trading and onchain settlement of tokenized shares of US companies and ETFs. The project requires regulatory approval and envisions using the Pillar order-matching mechanism combined with blockchain infrastructure. The system is also expected to support multiple blockchains for settlement and asset custody.

In August, ICE reached an agreement with tZERO to use its infrastructure for the tokenized securities market, naming the company a development partner. At the same time, the specific blockchain for the future NYSE platform has still not been announced.

Cooper also expects that within a year, some trading venues could move to 24/5 trading on weekdays. However, he declined to predict whether this model would extend to the largest exchanges.

“Will that be the mainstream exchanges? The largest in the world? The LSEs, the NYSEs, the CMEs? I don’t know about that,” said the president of Ava Labs.

He added that smaller venues are already actively trying to attract liquidity to their platforms:

“There are a lot of smaller venues that are making a very compelling case to the world to put liquidity on them.”

Recently, Avalanche has been expanding its presence in projects tied to real-world asset tokenization and the shift of traditional financial services onchain. In particular, the blockchain was used in FIFA’s ticketing system for the 2026 World Cup, and the Ethena project launched a neobank on it with support for stablecoin payments.

South Korea also plans to move part of its capital markets onchain, and India’s Arya.ag is preparing its own L1 network on Avalanche to tokenize $2 billion in agricultural assets.
