OpenAI Launches GPT-6 Sol and Luna with Significant Price Cuts

On September 22, OpenAI introduced two new models, GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, shortly after Anthropic released its Claude Opus 5.5. These new models are designed to offer more affordable and efficient options for everyday tasks, positioned below the existing GPT-6 Astra model.

In a notable move, OpenAI has halved the API prices for both GPT-6 Sol and Luna compared to the promotional pricing of GPT-5.6. Specifically, the input and output costs for GPT-6 Sol are set at $2 and $10 per million tokens, respectively, while GPT-6 Luna's prices are reduced to $0.1 and $0.5 per million tokens.

Performance metrics highlight the capabilities of GPT-6 Sol, which scored 33.2% on the Zapier AutomationBench benchmark under the highest inference settings, with a task cost of $0.27. In comparison, Claude Opus 5 achieved a score of 26.9% at a significantly higher cost per task. Additionally, GPT-6 Sol excelled in the Agents' Last Exam test with a top score of 56.4%, and in the OSWorld 2 computer usage test, it closely matched Claude Opus 5's score while maintaining costs approximately 80% lower.
