Oracle Lays Off 546 Employees in U.S. Cloud Infrastructure Division

Oracle Corporation has initiated its second round of layoffs in 2026, resulting in the termination of 546 employees from its U.S. cloud infrastructure division. This reduction represents approximately 7.6% of the division's workforce, which consisted of 7,185 employees prior to the layoffs. The affected roles primarily include managers, engineers, software developers, and personnel in data center maintenance and services. The layoffs were disclosed in a leaked document intended to comply with federal age discrimination laws, highlighting that many of those laid off are over the age of 40, with around 16% being 60 years or older.

The company has previously announced plans to reduce its overall workforce by 21,000 employees, equating to a 13% decrease, by May 31, 2026. Before these layoffs, Oracle employed approximately 141,000 individuals globally. Despite the workforce reductions, the cloud infrastructure division has reported a significant revenue growth of 121% year-over-year in the most recent quarter, indicating a strong demand for its services.

Among the specific roles eliminated, 57 software developer III positions were cut, making up about 17% of the layoffs. The data center support services department saw 41 positions eliminated, including those of the vice president and two senior directors. Additionally, 128 managerial positions were terminated, accounting for roughly 23% of the total layoffs, with project managers alone comprising 61 of those roles. Oracle is simultaneously increasing its investment in AI data centers, with projected expenditures between $90 billion and $95 billion for the year.
