Samsung Electronics Q3 operating profit surges nearly 8x, hitting record high for fourth consecutive quarter

PANews reported on October 8, citing Sina Finance, that Samsung Electronics released preliminary earnings on Thursday showing strong third-quarter results, driven by explosive growth in AI chip demand. From July to September this year, Samsung estimated operating profit reached 107.4 trillion won (about $80.17 billion), up nearly eightfold (about 783%) from 12.17 trillion won a year earlier, not only setting a record high for the fourth consecutive quarter but also beating the market forecast of 106.1 trillion won. Meanwhile, third-quarter revenue was estimated at 195 trillion won, up 127% year-on-year.

As the pace of AI infrastructure construction has far outpaced memory chip capacity expansion, prices of traditional DRAM, NAND flash and the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) essential for AI continue to surge, and this supply-demand gap is expected to persist until 2027. Detailed profit figures for each business division will be disclosed in the official earnings report later this month.
