Solana Achieves Record Spot DEX Volume of $197 Billion in Q3 2026

Solana has reported a significant milestone in its decentralized exchange (DEX) performance, leading all blockchain networks with a spot trading volume of $197 billion in the third quarter of 2026. This figure represents a 16.6% increase from the previous quarter, marking the fifth consecutive quarter that Solana has topped the charts in this category. The surge in trading activity has been attributed to high-frequency trading of memecoins, stablecoin swaps, and an expanding array of tokenized assets.

September was particularly robust for Solana, with on-chain spot DEX volume reaching approximately $184 billion, according to Solana Compass. However, discrepancies in reporting methodologies were noted, as another tracker, DefiLlama, estimated the September volume at around $78 billion. Overall, the total DEX volume for Q3 was estimated to be about $168 billion by late September, highlighting the varying assessments of trading activity within the ecosystem.

In terms of transactions, Solana Compass recorded over 8.78 billion non-vote transactions during the quarter, a record for the network. This figure indicates a daily average of between 120 million and 154 million transactions. Notably, in one week of September, Solana's DEX trade count reached approximately 208 million, surpassing the New York Stock Exchange's trade count of around 190 million, although it is important to note that trade counts do not equate to dollar value.

The growth in Solana's DEX activity comes amidst a decline in trading volumes on centralized exchanges for SOL, even as the number of daily active addresses and SOL wallet counts increased. This shift towards on-chain trading venues could have significant implications for market dynamics, particularly in terms of fee structures and liquidity. However, the reliance on speculative memecoin trading raises concerns about the sustainability of this growth, as a downturn in memecoin activity could quickly impact trade counts.
