UK Financial Conduct Authority Starts Accepting Crypto Authorization Applications

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the United Kingdom has commenced the acceptance of authorization applications from cryptocurrency firms as part of a new regulatory framework for cryptoassets. This initiative aims to enhance consumer protection, safeguard customer assets, ensure market integrity, and bolster financial resilience within the sector.

Crypto firms wishing to continue their operations in the UK must submit their applications by February 28, 2027, ahead of the new regulations taking effect on October 25, 2027. During the transition period, existing firms that apply will be allowed to continue providing cryptoasset services, including onboarding new customers, as long as the FCA has not made a decision on their applications by the time the new regime begins.

The FCA has emphasized that authorization is not guaranteed and firms must prove compliance with its standards to be approved. To assist applicants, the regulator is providing pre-application support and hosting webinars. Firms that fail to meet the new requirements will be prohibited from offering regulated cryptoasset services in the UK.
