Bitcoin's Value Declines as Market Influences Shift

Bitcoin is currently trading around $86,000, approximately 32% lower than its peak of about $126,000 reached on October 6, 2025. The cryptocurrency's recent performance indicates a shift in its correlation from crypto-specific news to broader economic factors, particularly U.S. interest rates and the strength of the dollar. This change has made upcoming U.S. Federal Reserve minutes and economic data significant catalysts for Bitcoin's price movement.

The decline in Bitcoin's value has been influenced by several macroeconomic factors, including rising U.S. Treasury yields, which recently reached their highest levels since 2007, and a slowdown in inflows into U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Inflows dropped sharply to around $80 million last week from approximately $2.4 billion the previous week, indicating a cooling of institutional demand. Additionally, a weak payroll report for September, which showed only 29,000 jobs added compared to expectations of 84,000, contributed to a reduction in the likelihood of an October rate hike by the Federal Reserve, resulting in a brief price increase for Bitcoin.

Despite the recent downturn, some analysts remain optimistic about Bitcoin's potential recovery. Citigroup has raised its 12-month price target for Bitcoin to $113,000, suggesting a possible rebound. Technical indicators also show that Bitcoin's moving averages are aligning in a bullish formation for the first time since 2025. However, the overall sentiment remains cautious, as the cryptocurrency's performance appears increasingly tied to macroeconomic conditions rather than its traditional role as an inflation hedge.
