CICC Predicts Strong Start for A-Shares Post Golden Week

China International Capital Corporation (CICC) anticipates a robust opening for A-shares as mainland markets resume trading on October 8 following the National Day holiday. The investment bank noted that the market's prior weakness was influenced by various external challenges, but it identified three key factors that could bolster recovery: positive performance in overseas markets during the holiday, stable domestic economic data, and upcoming third-quarter earnings reports.

CICC highlighted that while mainland exchanges were closed, international markets generally experienced gains, providing a favorable backdrop for domestic investors. Additionally, the bank described recent economic indicators within China as relatively stable, which may enhance investor confidence. The third factor, the anticipated earnings reports, is expected to support market sentiment as companies reveal their financial performance for the third quarter.

Despite a challenging end to September, where the Shanghai Composite index closed around 3,840, CICC believes that investor confidence may rebound in October. The brokerage's outlook comes amid a mixed holiday performance, with Wall Street reaching record highs while Hong Kong shares fell 2.6% on October 2 before partially recovering. The return of both southbound and domestic investors will be critical in determining whether the anticipated recovery can be sustained beyond the initial trading sessions.
