Gold Prices Fluctuate Amid US Economic Data and Geopolitical Tensions

Gold prices experienced volatility recently, initially rising following weaker-than-expected U.S. Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) data before reversing gains and closing lower. The PCE data, which was impacted by methodological changes from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), did not provide a strong catalyst for either movement, leading to uncertainty in the market.

In the short term, gold prices are expected to remain rangebound, influenced by the ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran, as well as the anticipation of upcoming economic reports. The likelihood of an interest rate hike in October appears low, which may limit downside pressure on gold. However, any negative developments in U.S.-Iran relations could increase bearish sentiment.

Market participants are closely watching the upcoming U.S. Non-Farm Payroll (NFP) report. A stronger-than-expected jobs report could lead to a reassessment of interest rate expectations, potentially weighing on gold prices. Conversely, a disappointing NFP reading might provide a short-term boost to gold as traders adjust their rate hike predictions.
