Oil Prices Rebound Amid US Market Holiday

In European morning trading, WTI crude oil prices increased by 1.4%, reaching $92.99 per barrel after initially dipping below $90 earlier in the day. The early decline was influenced by hopes for a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, but concerns over ongoing supply disruptions in the Middle East shifted market sentiment back towards higher prices.

The US bond market was closed on October 9 in observance of Columbus Day, leading to a quieter trading session as investors awaited key signals from the bond market. While the stock market remained open, the absence of trading in US Treasuries contributed to thinner liquidity conditions, which could result in exaggerated price movements throughout the day.

The US dollar showed slight gains against major currencies, with the USD/JPY rising 0.2% to 158.60 and the EUR/USD declining 0.2% to 1.1175. European equities experienced a modest uptick following a challenging trading week, with S&P 500 futures up 0.1% and Nasdaq futures down 0.2%. Meanwhile, gold prices fell 0.5% to $4,170 after facing resistance at the $4,200 mark. Market participants are now looking ahead to the US Consumer Price Index report scheduled for Wednesday, which is expected to influence trading dynamics for the remainder of the week.
