Cleveland Fed President Advocates for Additional Interest Rate Hikes to Combat Inflation

Beth Hammack, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, has emphasized the need for further increases in U.S. interest rates to address persistent inflationary pressures. In a recent interview, Hammack stated that current monetary policy is insufficiently restrictive, despite the recent rise in bond yields.

Hammack advocates for a strategy of smaller, more frequent rate hikes, although she remains flexible regarding the timing of the next increase. She expressed concern that if inflation remains elevated for an extended period, it could become ingrained in the expectations of consumers and businesses, complicating the Federal Reserve's efforts to achieve its 2% inflation target.
