Dollar Weakens Ahead of U.S. CPI Report as Oil Prices Rise

The U.S. dollar experienced a decline against major currencies on October 13, 2026, as traders awaited the upcoming Consumer Price Index (CPI) report. The dollar's most significant drop was against the Canadian dollar, while it showed a smaller decline against the Japanese yen. The late-session currency levels indicated that the euro was trading at 1.1196, the British pound at 1.3251, and the Canadian dollar at 1.4213 against the U.S. dollar.

In the bond market, longer-term Treasury yields fell, with the 10-year yield dropping to 5.2168%. This easing of yields provided some relief from high borrowing costs, although the 10-year yield remains above 5.2%. The mixed performance in the stock market saw the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing down 181.02 points, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite also recorded slight declines after a volatile trading session.

Oil prices continued to rise, settling at $94.14 per barrel, driven by ongoing tensions in the Middle East that raised concerns about supply disruptions. Reports of discussions between U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding actions against Iran contributed to the heightened risks. Meanwhile, the housing market showed signs of improvement, with September existing-home sales exceeding expectations, although the overall impact on the market was limited as attention remained focused on inflation and the Federal Reserve's monetary policy.
