TSMC Anticipates Record Q3 Profit Driven by AI Demand

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is projected to report a record net profit for the third quarter of 2026, driven by robust demand for its advanced chips used in artificial intelligence infrastructure. Analysts forecast a 65% increase in net profit to NT$746.3 billion (approximately US$23.4 billion), marking the company's 11th consecutive quarter of profit growth. This follows a record revenue of roughly NT$1.49 trillion reported last week, which reflects a 50% year-on-year increase.

The earnings call, scheduled for 0600 GMT, will provide insights into TSMC's fourth-quarter guidance and its updated full-year outlook. While revenue figures are already established, analysts will focus on profit margins and capital expenditure plans. In July, TSMC raised its capital expenditure forecast for 2026 to between US$60 billion and US$64 billion, indicating confidence in sustained AI demand through 2027.

TSMC, which serves major clients including Nvidia and Apple, is also expanding its operations internationally, investing US$265 billion in chip manufacturing facilities in Arizona, with potential plans for further investment in Texas. The company's market value of around US$2 trillion positions it as Asia's most valuable company, significantly surpassing that of South Korea's Samsung Electronics. As TSMC prepares for its earnings announcement, any updates regarding equipment supply from ASML, a key supplier, will also be closely monitored by investors.
