Bank of America Survey Reveals Semiconductor Trade Dominance Among Fund Managers

A recent survey by Bank of America (BofA), conducted between September 4 and 10, indicates that 53% of global fund managers view investing in global semiconductors as the most crowded trade. This marks the fourth consecutive month that this trade has maintained its leading position among investment strategies.

Despite the strong interest in semiconductor stocks, 33% of the surveyed fund managers expressed concerns that companies in this sector are over-invested, representing the highest level of such sentiment recorded to date. In a notable shift, 'shorting government bonds' has emerged as the second most crowded trade, with 18% of respondents identifying it as their primary focus. Meanwhile, only 7% of fund managers consider 'going long on the Magnificent 7'—a term referring to seven prominent technology stocks—as the most crowded trade.

Previously, the semiconductor trade dominated for 23 consecutive months from 2023 to 2025, peaking at approximately 70% in June 2024. The ongoing interest in semiconductor stocks reflects their significant role in the global market and investor strategies.
