Bitwise and Lido Launch Ethereum Validator Consolidation in Major Upgrade

Bitwise has successfully executed the first validator consolidation on Lido Core, marking a significant advancement in Ethereum's staking infrastructure. This initiative is part of the rollout of Lido's new Curated Module v2 (CMv2), which aims to restructure approximately 8.4 million staked ETH, valued at around $16.5 billion at the time of the announcement, from legacy validators into a more efficient system.

Previously, Ethereum validators were limited to a maximum effective balance of 32 ETH, necessitating thousands of individual validators for large staking operations. However, the recent Pectra hard fork, implemented in May 2025, introduced a new validator type capable of managing up to 2,048 ETH, significantly increasing efficiency. The CMv2 migration leverages this new structure, allowing for a projected one-third reduction in Lido's total validator count and a 29% decrease in attestation messages per epoch, thereby easing the computational load on Ethereum's consensus layer.

Bitwise's involvement in this consolidation follows its acquisition of Chorus One, a staking infrastructure provider that was already a Lido node operator. This strategic move has positioned Bitwise as a key player in the CMv2 framework, which was approved by the Lido DAO in July 2026. The initial phase of the migration went live in September 2026, with full migration expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2027. The introduction of bonding requirements for all curated operators is set to enhance the integrity and performance of Lido's staking infrastructure.
