Bullish Executes Longest-Dated Bitcoin Options Trade Expiring in 2028
Bullish, an institutional exchange trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker BLSH, has successfully cleared a bitcoin options contract that is set to expire on January 28, 2028. This marks the longest-dated options trade ever executed on a digital asset platform, providing approximately two and a half years of forward exposure to bitcoin's price, a timeframe typically associated with traditional commodity and equity derivatives.
Since launching its bitcoin options product on October 8, 2025, Bullish has rapidly ascended to become the second-largest platform globally for bitcoin options open interest, trailing only Deribit. The exchange has surpassed major competitors such as OKX, Binance, and CME, achieving peak open interest between $3 billion and $4 billion, with single-day trading volumes exceeding $1 billion, accounting for about 20% of the global bitcoin options market.
The specific details of the January 2028 trade, including strike price and notional size, remain undisclosed, which is standard for institutional block trades to mitigate market impact. Bullish employs a unified margin system that allows traders to manage positions across spot, futures, and options using a single collateral pool, enhancing operational efficiency. Additionally, as of May 2026, Bullish's options data has been integrated into analytics platforms such as Laevitas and The Block, increasing visibility for institutional traders who rely on these tools for market analysis.
