Cardano Founder Develops New Programming Language for Enhanced Transaction Processing
Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, is developing a new programming language aimed at enhancing transaction processing on the Cardano network. He is collaborating with Lucas Rosa, an engineer from Input Output Global and co-creator of Aiken, one of Cardano's primary smart contract languages. This new language is set to be the first to integrate user transaction completion intentions with cryptographic proofs, a significant advancement in blockchain technology.
The programming language will feature three key tools: transaction intent, data with carry proofs, and Groth16 proofs. Transaction intent allows users to outline their goals without detailing the specific steps, enabling functionalities such as conditional token exchanges. Data with carry proofs will provide cryptographic evidence that information adheres to specific rules, facilitating verification by other applications without the need for recalculation. Groth16 proofs are known for their efficiency, generating small, quickly verifiable proofs that confirm conditions have been met while keeping private data secure.
This combination of tools will empower developers to create applications that can coordinate transactions, validate complex conditions, and securely share verified information across services, all while maintaining a compact proof verified by the Cardano network. Currently, Cardano developers utilize Haskell-based Plutus and Aiken for smart contract development, while Input Output Global also operates a privacy-focused blockchain called Midnight, which uses its own language, Compact. The name, public code, and release date for the new programming language have yet to be disclosed.
