Chengming Technology Demands Accountability from Zhipu Over Data Upload Incident

Taiyuan Chengming Technology Co., Ltd. has formally addressed Beijing Zhipu Huazhang Technology Co., Ltd. regarding the alleged unauthorized upload of sensitive company data and trade secrets by its ZCode client. In a letter, Chengming Technology outlined several demands and reserved the right to pursue legal action against Zhipu for the incident, which they claim involved the automatic and bulk upload of critical files, including project source code and employee personal information.

Despite Zhipu's public apology for the incident and claims of rectifying the issue, Chengming Technology's independent investigations indicated that the upload behavior persisted even after the client was updated to version 3.12.3 on September 16. This raised concerns about the effectiveness of the purported fix, especially since the network requests linked to the ZCode client pointed to a Singapore entity, while the service agreement was signed with Zhipu in Beijing, China.

Chengming Technology has set a deadline of October 10 for Zhipu to respond in writing, demanding the immediate cessation of data processing and the thorough deletion of all uploaded data. They are also seeking clarification on whether the data was shared with third parties, used for model training, or transmitted abroad. As of now, Zhipu has not publicly responded to the demands outlined in the letter.
