Claude Launches New Flagship Model Opus 5.5, Cutting Costs by 40%

PANews, September 23 — Anthropic has released its next-generation large model Claude Opus 5.5, the first product in the Claude 5.5 series. The model reaches Claude Fable 5.1 levels on most tasks, reduces operating costs by about 40% compared to Opus 5, boosts inference speed by over 30%, and shows significant improvements in agentic coding, computer use, and knowledge work. Anthropic said Opus 5.5 is its first new model since calling for a slowdown in the frontier model race, has passed testing by external organizations including METR and Frontier Design, and achieved its best results to date in its most comprehensive internal alignment evaluation. At the same time, Anthropic raised the five-hour usage limits for Pro, Max, and Team subscriptions, and is offering subscribers a one-time rate limit reset that can be used at a time of their choosing.
