Ledger Incident Attacker Transfers 2,990 ETH into Tornado Cash

Between October 9 and 10, an attacker linked to the CryptoBilis Ledger hardware wallet incident transferred 2,990.3 ETH, valued at approximately 7.45 million USD, into Tornado Cash, a privacy-focused cryptocurrency mixer. The on-chain detective known as Specter reported these transactions on their personal channel, highlighting the ongoing efforts of the attacker to obscure the origins of the stolen funds.

Prior to this transfer, the attacker had withdrawn funds to 14 different addresses and utilized cross-chain transactions to ZEC via NEAR Intents for further privacy. Specter noted that some of the withdrawal transactions were initiated by wallets that had previously paid gas fees during the theft, indicating a potential link between the funds and the initial theft actions.

The CryptoBilis incident raised concerns about supply chain risks associated with the Ledger hardware wallet. In response, Ledger has announced that it is investigating the matter and has urged users to remain vigilant regarding the security of their devices. The situation continues to evolve as the attacker seeks to transfer and conceal the stolen assets.
