North Korean hacker group uses fake job postings to infect over 30,000 devices and steal about $10.7 million from more than 7,000 crypto wallets

PANews September 20 news, according to Forbes, a joint advisory issued by multiple countries' agencies, including the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Japan's National Police Agency (NPA), shows that the North Korea-linked hacker group WaterPlum (also known as Contagious Interview) has been attacking IT developers worldwide from December 2025 to July 2026 by offering fake jobs disguised as companies in the AI, cryptocurrency, or NFT sectors. The attackers contacted job seekers on social media and recruitment platforms, luring them into downloading malicious files under the pretext of technical interviews or coding tests, successfully infecting more than 30,000 devices across over 100 countries and regions, and stealing data from more than 7,000 crypto wallets. At least $10.71 million in related funds flowed into wallets controlled by the attackers.
